I made a piece of art on canvas and decided to you water color on canvas which didn't work out really in end but, i used just a little bit of water when putting the water color on the canvas so it would stay. The watercolors were very sticky on the canvas after a day that it was put on and if touched it would come off. So i decided to dump a bucket of water on the canvas to make the paint actually a watercolored look.

For artist tell a story Ashlyn and I 3-D printed a Giraffe and was going to make a locker with a zoo but our giraffe broke many times so we gave up on all of our hopes and dreams. RIP JAYRAFFE 2-26-16
For my artist self direct project I drew an elephant Mr. Sands told me not today because artist self directs like to rebel. But this project isn't finished it is taking a whole new level by copying to image of the elephant and blowing it up to make a large coloring page for other artist to draw so it will become an art collaboration with other students.Find 2 items you have no idea what they do and find out what they do 1. Chalkboard Paint you can paint anything and it will turn into a chalkboard. 2. Sidewalk Chalk Paint you add water to the paint and it turns into powder as you paint on the sidewalk. Find 5 of any items other material not listed that you could use to make art
1.Rubber bands you could roll up and make art. 2. Rolling pin you could rolls your art out, like sculpture. 3. Yarn you could design things, or hang the yarn. 4. Social media you could make art out of that. 5. Stainless steel you could make pretty window art. 6. Bird Seeds 7. Dirt In the beginning of the semester I had a different perspective on what I thought art was compared to what I think now. At the beginning I thought that art was just something unique in different, but now I think that it doesn't have to be different at all it can be someone else's art changed just a little bit and I that still would be art. I also now think it can be expressed in many different was it doesn't have to just be a drawing on a piece of paper, it can be spray paint on a building or something like that. In the unit art of steal I first thought that it was plagiarism to copy someone's art work. Throughout the unit I learned that it's not stealing it's just borrowing ideas to create your on piece of art. Some times you need to steal someone's art work to think of ideas. I learned the most that I never knew before in this unit. The first picture I drew in art was very bland and didn't have that much of a theme. But the one I drew at the end of the semester has a lot of meaning in the theme. It is a picture of a girl underwater who drowned with a lifesaver above her head she never got too, it conveys a much bigger theme than the first picture I drew. My art work skills have also changed the girl looks more realistic because I didn't just draw a stick figure, I had to observe many pictures to see how I wanted to draw the person unlike at the beginning of the year I would have just drawn a stick figure. My favorite unit was sculpting becuase we got to make something that we could actually use. Like I made a elephant ice cream bowl. I liked it because it was more of a hands on project and it didn't give you hand cramps from writing so much. My other favorite unit was probaly the last one we did Identity because I got to work with my best friend doing it, and I also really liked dressing up and taking picture. I liked that we didn't have a specific assignment to work on like if you were still on the last project we were doing you still could work on it. I also liked that for most projects we could pick what we wanted to do and if we wanted to do something we could bend the rules for them. I think that you could have gave us longer to do projects but that's all I think you should maybe change. I liked that we didn't have a apes doc assignment to work on like if you were still on the last project we were doing you still could work on it. I thought it was good that you have a specific day to work on blogs because without those days I would never gotten my blogs done.I also liked that for most projects we could pick what we wanted to do and if we wanted to do something we could bend the rules for them. I think that you could have gave us longer to do projects but that's all I think you should maybe change. My art work "Swapped" is a collage of photos of my friends and I identiy switched. This ties into the unit because it shows that even though we are friends our lives are very different and so are we as people. All of the activities we do, schools we go to and houses we live in define who we are.In my photo I am wearing a school uniform, it is different than what my friends wearing becuase we do not have a uniform at our school. If I went to her school my life and personality would be different because of the people I surround myself with there and the activities I do. Also our sports we play are different, they are also swapped and the attitude we have when we play/compete is different. Our family behaviors are different, she has a younger sister who she takes care of a lot and so she has more responsibility in her family, unlike in my family I'm the youngest so my older brother take more responsibility. Every action of ours defines who we are as a person and our identity of what people think of us. The piece of artwork I chose was Girl by Bob Trotman, it inspired my work because when I looked at it I thought of imbalance. What came to mind when I thought of the word imbalance was a wounded solider or a dancer. I picked to draw a solider with an amputated leg becuase to stand without a leg you are imbalanced. In my drawing he his standing up straight by himself because it took practice to be balanced again, think of it like when you have a balancer and you are trying to make the two sides even because they are imbalanced, it takes time to balance them out. My sculpture is free standing, so it is not attached to anything but the base. I made a pinch pit then I attached the legs and head by scoring and slipping. It is a bowl with legs attached on the bottom, with a elpahant face. It's suppose to resemble a elephant. I made it so you could eat out of it, like ice cream or chips. The top picture is someone wedging the clay. You wedge the clay by kneading it to make the conscitency evan and free if any air pockets. If it is not wedged there could be air pockets in the clay and could explode in the kiln. The bottom picture is someone who scored the clay, but cutting little lines into the clay. Than you put water in the cracks of the lines you scored to create the slip part. If you don't do this when you attach a piece it will fall off when your fire it in the kiln. To make. pinch pot you need to get a round piece of clay, put your finger in the middle and turn it until it becomes a pot. You can put two pinch pots together by scoring and slipping but you'll need a vent so air can get in and out, so it doesn't explode in the kiln. If you have never made a clay elpahant bowl like I did, you might need to know the basics. First I wedged the clay so there wasn't any air pockets in the clay. Than I made a pinch pot that I shaped like a bowl, if you are putting two pinch pots together you will need to make a whole in the clay so it does not explode. I attached the legs and elephant face by scoring and slipping them onto the pinch pot which is the body. I also had to score and slip little detail onto the face of the elphant. In the final project my limitation was only using my left hand which isn't my dominant hand, I struggled with keeping the lines straight. Instead of painting straight lines and having a mess of lines going everywhere, I decided to do pointillism with paint. So if i did mess up you couldn't really tell, because it looked like the dots were suppose to be there. I started running out of time in the end, so i used a paint brush to paint strokes that looked like feathers. In the beginning of the project i struggled a lot trying to sketch out the Peacock, it frustrated me a lot since i couldn't draw very well, but i learned to embrace that i can't draw with my left hand. Just like how Phil Hansen in the video Embrace the Shake learned to work with his limitation. The sketch of the peacock is before it was painted. Our limitation for one of the projects was we only had newspaper as a supply, i solved this by pasting the newspaper on four small pieces of cardboard, when you put them together they are one big picture together and form a picture of a leaf. Its very simple but if you think deep about the meaning, it can also be very meaningful. My thinking for solving problems from the beginning of the unit has changed a little bit. My strategies if I couldn't get it done was do soemthing diffrent, but now I think that you can just chand it a little bit to accomplish what your trying to get done, or just use your limitation to make your work even stronger. My understanding of what i originally thought was stealing things from other artists wasn't okay, has evolved and now i understand that stealing things is okay. At the beginning of the unit i thought that stealing ideas from another artist was not right, but through the unit my opinion has changed. I thought that if you didn't come up with the idea it's copying, but I learned that nothing is complety original and things are just being copied but changed into there own way. Watching videos and learning about different artists who have stolen ideas and made them there own has showed me that it's not stealing. My first project that i stole from was the character remix, i used Ariel and a hipster girl to for hipster Ariel, i combined two of my favorite things. This ties into the unit because i stole multiple pictures to create my own drawing. With the colored pencils i tried to get a waxy look by burnishing the colored pencils by layering the color on top of each other, for the eyes i layered different color blues to get a blue that had a nice tint. For my final art of steal project I used the subject of art and science. The making of the ice and melting was science related and the colors and placement of the cubes were art. My partner and I made ice chalk that sizzled, we made a stop motion video of it melting. On Pinterest I looked for some ideas that led me too think about making paint ice cubes, but I figured it would be cool if it was chalk. I ended up stealing other peoples idea to make them my own. |
